Aker Energy AS was founded in February 2018 and is established as the newest member of the Aker Group. The E&P company aims to become the offshore oil and gas operator of choice in Ghana.

Responsibilities and tasks

  • Ensure necessary Risk Management and HSSEQ support & advice to the Country Manager and Ghana operations
  • Responsible for defining & implementing an HSSEQ Policy & Plan for Ghana operations
  • Develop and maintain the HSSEQ department competency and capability. Train and coach the team.
  • Keep abreast of relevant legislation & regulations corporate requirements, standards, and makes sure relevant information is translated in policies, procedures, rules & instructions to obtain HSSE compliance
  • Perform and plan necessary inspections and assurance activities
  • Ensure HSSEQ training in Ghana, for employees (& contractors as necessary)
  • Responsible for development & implementation of an effective Emergency Response Plan, Organization and Drills
  • Responsible for the operations security, issue warnings, providing remedial actions and status reporting
  • Analyses of events, proposal of risk reducing measures and follow-up
  • Initiate & ensure that investigations of incidents, accidents, (serious) near misses & unsafe working conditions are conducted in a complete & timely manner providing remedial actions to achieve effective incident prevention & avoidance of losses
  • Acts as liaison with government agencies in case of HSSE related inquiries & inspections
  • Actively support & promote a pro-active positive HSSE culture within the entire Ghana organization (incl. contractors).
  • Set up & implements HSSE Behaviour Based programs & promotional activities that will improve HSSE awareness & ownership

  • HSSE reporting to the Country Manager, Chief HSSEQ and government agencies
  • Qualifications & personal attributes

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in Health, Safety & Environment or within Engineering Science
  • 10 years’ experience in positions within the oil and gas industry, preferably an O&G Operator
  • Leadership, ability to work independently and to take decisions
  • Experienced in Health, Safety, Security & Environmental Management, Risk Management and Emergency Response
  • Operations experience, such as drilling op. and / or production
  • Worked internationally and knowledge on applicable authority requirements and industry standards & guidelines
  • Strong coaching skills
  • Ability to make an impact and validity to the organisation
  • Able to recognise best practice but also what is achievable
  • Be able to work under pressure with a positive working attitude and a strong sense of responsibility
  • Willing to work as an expat in Accra, Ghana
